Monday Miscellany - Making Lacy Tags & Earring Cards for Jewelry Display

I have a convention coming up down in LA (LosCon) in November. I was thinking about how I want to label and tag my pieces, particularly earrings, which I've not had good hangers for in the past.

I was shopping at Michael's a while ago and saw the punch (center of picture, large & purple) with the tag shape and thought, "Hey! I can use that!" then I saw the corner punch (blue & yellow upper left). I already had the lace edge punch (top, white) from about a year ago which I thought I could use to decorate little white bags - didn't work so well for that, but turns out it works great for my new earring card idea.

I think the square tags with the lace corners/tops in the upper right corner of the picture above, that I cut out with the large purple punch, will be price tags for my necklace lanyards, the larger tags for writing longer descriptions on special pieces (+ prices, of course).

I used my metal punch to put two small earring holes in them, but that only works for open hook earwires and I have a lot of lever back earwire earrings in my collection. So I designed some other earring cards that would work with the leverbacks (upper right, blue paper). If you're interested in a little step by step on how I made them, read on!

First off, I used parchment style light cardstock, with 5 different colors of sheets. It's from the assortment value pack of 80 sheets from The Paper Company, 5.5" x 7.5" size , archival, acid free, lignin free. I have no idea what that means, I'm not a scrapbooker - but they were on sale. I got several packs.

I experimented with the punches and different sizes.
For the small tags, I used a 1.25" square punch to
punch out several plain squares.

Punch the corners with the lace corner punch,
add a hole to the top (I wanted a tiny hole so I misappropiated)
my metal punch and add a string.

You can also use these as earring hangers.

Lace edge earring hangers - use the lace edge punch.
I did two punches at the top of the paper.
Trimmed it to leave just the lace edge

Fold over just above the lace

Hook the earrings through the lace.
This will work well hanging over a earring rack or lying on a table.

You could also make a standing card.
Start with a lace cut strip (this one is 7.5" long)
and fold over a thin strip at the top with the lace.



Fold again at the 2.5" mark, fold it so it's folded up
behind the lace strip fold.



Make another fold back towards the top to form a triangle
and fold one more thin strip the opposite way at the very edge.



Use double-sided tape or glue to fix the little strip to the front of the card.

And here's what one rack of earrings looks like right now. The color of the card is coordinated with the type of metal used. I am thinking about how to print them - sticker? Custom name stamp? Will start researching.
